Entertainment (Bait Category)

The Ragebait Lens category for titles that are fun or informative but inert — there is nothing to act on, no division being stoked, no urgency being manufactured. It is the gentlest category, and the one most often mistaken for harmless.

Entertainment is the category I find people most surprised to see flagged at all. A cooking video, a game highlight, a pleasant explainer — where is the manipulation in that? And the honest answer is: usually nowhere in the content. The thing being sorted here is not malice. It's the absence of a stake.

That absence is exactly why the category earns its place. Entertainment titles are inert — you can't do anything with them, there's nothing to act on — and inert is not the same as neutral. The cost is not what a single video does to you; it's the share of finite attention the whole category quietly absorbs while the Genuine slice stays empty. Pleasant and frictionless is, for an attention system, close to ideal.

I want to be careful not to moralize this. Rest is real, delight is real, and not every minute needs to be productive. Entertainment is the one category where "high score" is often fine. The Lens isn't telling you to stop; it's just refusing to pretend the time isn't being spent.

The pause here is the lightest of the five. Not "should I watch this" but simply "did I choose this, or did the autoplay choose it for me?" When the answer is the second one, even fun is just the feed deciding on your behalf.
